SUMMARY:Composer In First Person
DESCRIPTION:GROND Bijdorpstraat 1\, Amsterdam\, Netherlands \n19:00 (doors: 18:30)\nTickets: pay what you can \n  \nDanya Pilchen and Jasna Veličković invite you to GROND to meet\, listen\, and discuss their work with you\, and to plant some seeds for future possibilities together. \n  \nFor this event\, Danya will prepare an improvisatory work highlighting the relationship \nbetween perceptions of space and time through acoustic feedback\, spatialisation\, and field \nrecordings\, and Jasna will present insights from her long-term project The Art of Coil\, in which \nshe explores electromagnetic phenomena as both sound source and compositional material. \n  \nDanya Pilchen is a composer based in The Hague. His main interest lies in the human \nexperience of time and music’s ability to shed light on it. He has composed for a wide range of \nsettings\, including solo\, ensemble\, and orchestra\, as well as theatre productions. A significant \npart of his practice involves creating immersive sound installations that incorporate instrumental \nperformances. \nDanya’s music is closely intertwined with his research into collective experiences of time in \nmusical practices. Understanding time as an emerging property of consciousness affected by \nsocial interactions necessitates increased attention to the relationships between musicians and \naudiences in Danya’s pieces. To facilitate these interactions\, he employs various compositional \nstrategies and listening techniques engaging the materiality of sound. \n  \nJasna Veličković is a composer based in Amsterdam. Since 2008\, Jasna has been \nexperimenting with and researching within the sound world of the magnetic field—the \nomnipresent\, yet usually completely silent elements in human life. Her journey into the unknown \nstarted with an exploration of the sound produced by manipulating coils as parts of complex \nsound systems\, including classical instruments as sound sources. A purely serendipitous event \nin 2013 led her to the discovery that magnets can also produce sounds when applied to coils in \ncertain ways. This discovery ultimately resulted in the invention of the Velicon\, the instrument \nwhich she has been composing for and performing on ever since. The investigations of the \nmusical force of the magnetic field also led to the introduction of other seemingly silent objects \nas sound sources.

SUMMARY:Trio D.I.G./Kenzo Kusuda + Mitchell/Olivieri
DESCRIPTION:Trio DIG excels in articulation\, rapid exchanges and instant compositions. Ivo Bol (Amsterdam)\, Dušica Cajlan and Georg Wissel (both based in Cologne) each bring their own background in electronic music\, classical music and free jazz into a hybrid mix of noise and music.  Listen to  DIG@Soundcloud \nAmsterdam- based Japanese choreographer/dancer Kenzo Kusuda reveals the poetry of the dancing body. In a personal and intense manner Kusuda takes the audience to a world filled with imagination. His work pushes the perception of our physical senses. He uses the body’s movement on an almost empty stage to investigate the invisible. In the days he was studying economics and business management and working part-time at the fish market in Tokyo\, Kusuda discovered dance as his form of expression and gained recognition with his very personal movement language. Kusuda aims to connect with the imaginative powers of the audience. \nhttps://www.kenzokusuda.com/ \n\nDavid Mitchell creates highly textured improvisations over set-long performances on electric guitar and loopers\, deeply infused with Central Asian forms and the electric music of Miles Davis.  For this concert\, Mitchell will perform with vocalist Federica Olivieri\, with the duo exploring the influence of Norma Winstone’s ambient trio Azimuth. \nwww.davidmitchellmusic.net \n20:00 (doors 19:30) \n\nTickets: € 10 suggested price – online & at the door.
