SUMMARY:Harvest Festival
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nFrom the 30st of May till the 1st of June GROND will host part of the Harvest Festival organized in collaboration with damdam – an interconnected web of collectives emerging from de Appel’s Curatorial Programme\, the Lumbung Practice Temporary Master Programme at Sandberg Instituut and Gudskul’s Collective Study Programme in Indonesia. \nBuilding on the 25 years of Lumbung kindred experiments leading to lumbung – documenta fifteen\, for the first time this year we will gather with collectives to practice sustainable economies\, to think about our collective infrastructures\, shared practices\, common resources and values. One of our values is caring about the process\, rather than focusing on the production of artworks or exhibitions as isolated outputs. We turn toward each other and the relations that bind us. \nOur curatorial approach is embedded in the politics of friendship\, interdependence\, trust\, collective joy as well as engagement withAmsterdam and our localities. Alongside mapping our resources and needs in our ecosystem\, we build a common ground and think about potential seeds to plant. Out of this process\, several self-organised working groups emerged around common urgencies: community\, land\, economy\, printing\, publishing\, pedagogy\, documenting and archiving. In the Harvest Festival 2025 we share our understanding of lumbung practice and ongoing processes through nongkrongs (gatherings)\, workshops\, screenings\, discussions\, dinners and parties. What kind of future can we envision if we reorient our work around sharing\, communal rhythms\, and solidarity? \nThe program at GROND: \nFriday 30 May\, 10.00 – 17.00 \nMubadele\nWorkshop and Talk \nThrough the idea of Mubadele we aim to create a system where knowledge\, skills\, and materials circulate beyond the constraints of money. By mapping our existing resources\, and by organising discussions on funding\, this gathering is part of a longer-term vision: to develop strategies for economic resilience that are rooted in solidarity\, not scarcity. With Elke Uitentuis\, Colin Roustan and Alina Lupu. \nExhibition Opening – Everywhere is War\nFriday 30 May\, 17.00 – 21.00 \nThrough the making of stop motion animations the collectives Er Sell Reality and SSMG (Sudanese Stop Motion Group) gave shape to the feelings of guilt that they are facing because of leaving their beloved land and relationships behind. Everywhere is War is a process-oriented presentation that shows how both collectives have been experimenting with the animation techniques and exploring the battlefields under their skin. \nDuring the opening there will be dinner from 5 to 7pm cooked by Mohamed Alnoor\, \nand from 9pm a radio performance by Marc Nukoop\, Ivo Bol and Wytze Minne de Swart. \nThe exhibition is also open on 31 May and 1 June from 12 to 9pm. \n  \nSaturday 31 May\, 18.00 – 21.00 \nDon’t Stop Talking About Exile: The Voice of Women TV Show + Congo Solidarity Dinner\nScreening/discussion + Dinner convened by We Sell Reality & Parole de Femmes \nParole de Femmes TV Show (The Voice of Women TV Show) is a collaborative short-film led by women from the Emmaüs community. The screening will be followed by a talk with the creators of the film\, followed by a solidarity dinner for Congo. Guest speakers Eric Bimule and Aime Kabena will inform us about the situation DRC. \n  \nThe exhibition is also open on  1 June from 12 to 9pm. \nThrough the making of stop motion animations the collectives We Sell Reality and SSMG (Sudanese Stop Motion Group) gave shape to the feelings of guilt that they are facing because of leaving their beloved land and relationships behind. SUMMARY:Inter Acts: Jonathan Reus\, Jaap Blonk\, Marije Baalman
DESCRIPTION:16:00–18:00 (doors 15:30)\nTickets: regular €10 (or more) | solidarity €7\,5 – available at the door & online \nOn June 8th\, Jonathan Reus will present his work Bla Blavatar vs Jaap Blonk and Marije Baalman will present her works Composing an Interaction and The Machine is Learning. \nInter Acts is an afternoon with performances that deal with interactions between the human and the machine in different ways. The goal of the event is also to create a dialogue between audience and performers on these interactions\, and thus the event also gives space for a Q&A with the artists\, both for the visitors to learn more about the works\, as well as for the artist to get feedback on their work. \n______________________\nAbout the performances\nBla Blavatar vs Jaap Blonk\nBLA BLAVATAR vs JAAP BLONK – an experimental collaboration between Jonathan Reus and the reknowned sound poet Jaap Blonk\, exploring voice dataset making as a laborious\, improvisational and absurdly banal performance form. \nThe performance is an absurdist take on the cultural obsession with generative AI avatars and the goldrush to capitalise on creative automation. Rather than focusing on the uncanny realism of voice clones\, the performance foregrounds the physical\, creative and mental effort of performing sound poetry precisely according to an AI-friendly score\, inspired by traditions of phonetically balanced reading scripts in speech research\, and artistic traditions of typographical musical scores in sound poetry. \nReus performs as BLA BLAVATAR\, using a custom real-time voice synthesis instrument called Tungnaa\, which is trained on previous dataset poem performances by Blonk. The dynamic between Blonk and Reus sways from moments of precise and controlled material to improvised duets between Blonk and his vocal avatar. During the performance all of Blonk’s vocalisations are recorded and added to a growing public dataset\, and will be used as training data for making BLA BLAVATAR a better public speaker. Together\, Blonk and Reus bring the vocal labor behind AI voice models to the stage\, as well as use datasets and dataset making as a vocal art form that is fundamentally creative and exploratory\, rather than a dehumanising means to an end. \n \nComposing an Interaction\nComposing an Interaction is a lecture-performance in which Marije Baalman explains how a modern artist might use her book in the creation process of an interactive art work\, in casu quo a sock puppet. \nComposing an Interaction was created for the launch of the book Composing Interactions \nMarije Baalman – Photo by Pieter Kers\, at Flipchart #5\, October 22nd\, 2022.\nThe Machine is Learning\nThe performance the machine is learning is a theatrical performance highlighting the process of training a machine with realtime gestures: the labour that is absent from most dialogues on   machine learning. In an attempt to livecode with gestures\, the performer finds herself directed by the machine to repetitively make gestures to generate time series data samples for the machine to learn from. \nMachine learning is both hailed as the solution to our current day problems\, as well as claimed as one of the most threatening things to life as we know it. The popular discussion on AI criticizes issues of privacy with regard to data collection and the use of this data to take decisions that affect the life of people in possibly negative ways. At the same time\, with the possibilities of AI further automating work\, jobs are at danger and the fear is that this will leave many without a job in the future. On the other hand\, the labour involved in making machine learning algorithms work\, is less prominent in the popular discussion. The labour involved in AI consists not only of designing and programming algorithms\, but also in generating and categorising these data samples. The working conditions of these tasks are generally not known. \nMarije Baalman
