SUMMARY:Apapacho Day
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, mainly after the intensity of 8M and other feminist and social justice mobilizations\, many of us find ourselves exhausted\, drained\, and on the verge of burning out. We give our energy to the struggle\, to organizing\, to holding space for others\, but how often do we extend that same care to ourselves and to our community? \nThe Náhuatl word ‘apapacho’ carries deep meaning. According to linguistic studies\, it comes from the verb papatzoa or patzoa\, meaning “to press or squeeze”\, which evolved into the idea of bodies coming together in an embrace\, a physical gesture of warmth and comfort. Additionally\, some scholars connect it to pachoa\, meaning “to cover or shelter\, like a hen incubating her eggs”\, a beautiful metaphor for care as a protective and nurturing act.  \nApapacho\, then\, is not just affection\, it is a profound act of care that holds\, soothes\, and strengthens. As feminists\, we constantly speak about care\, healing\, and collective well-being\, so why not take this moment to actually put that into practice\, together? \n✨ What to expect? \n🌿 Bodywork and relaxation sessions \n☕ Nourishing drinks and comforting food \n🎶 Soothing music and collective reflection \n💜 A space to unwind\, recconnect\, and nurture resilience \nThis is a moment just for you\, a pause to breathe\, to feel held\, and to restore strength for the struggles ahead. Come as you are\, and let’s hold each other in radical care and solidarity. \n📍 Grond \nRegister to  feministasenholanda@gmail.com \nBecause rest is resistance. Because care is revolutionary. Because we deserve an apapacho.

SUMMARY:Temperatura: Looking for Life vol.1
DESCRIPTION:Looking for Life vol. 1 presents three sound performances on the evening of the 21st of May at GROND\, Amsterdam. Part of the Temperatura experimental music series.\nWith Ege Şahin\, Domenika Georgiou\, and Oscar van Leest.\nCurated by Kristijonas Groblys. \nfood by Judith Baten \nThe act of looking for life is rooted in the search for vital\, necessary action — the wish to be affected\, the openness to experience. Three artists will weave around the theme of sound-making and its connection to the act of living.\nShaping sound physically\, Ege Şahin will intervene in acoustic space with feedback baritone guitar. The improvised poetry of towering and complex tone structures emerges in the modular synthesis of Oscar van Leest. Domenika Georgiou blends human and machine life in her performance for Nintendo 3DS and mechanical armour. \nGROND Bijdorpstraat 1\, 1096AP\, Amsterdam\n20:00 (doors: 19:30)\nTickets: regular €10 (or more) / discount €7 – available at the door or Online \nDinner: + €15 (RSVP required – Reserve by purchasing online) \nAbout the Artists\nEge Şahin – Mirror Angel\nEge Şahin’s Mirror Angel emerges from an improvisation practice to explore sound’s vibratory potential in the space between a human performer\, electric guitar\, and amplifier(s). There will be a rationally tuned baritone feedback guitar\, transducers\, electromagnetic mics and exciters\, and a performer in relationship with them through feedback\, metal objects\, and his body. \nEge Şahin works in sound and music near the free-improvisation and electro-acoustic spheres with care for materiality in composition and spirituality in performance. On the more academic side\, he has been researching the relationship between different cultures’ metaphysics and their sound culture as part of his Master’s at the Institute of Sonology\, in the Hague\, where he is now based. \n \nOscar van Leest – Untitled \nOscar van Leest (1994) is an Amsterdam-based sound artist\, musician and sound designer. In his practice\, he explores the entangled relationships between sound and spatial context and how they are experienced across a wide range of technical tools; from software and to electro-acoustic devices and modular synthesis. The same tools shape his musical projects where they are applied in a genre-defying sonic framework of experimental electronics that emphasizes improvisation\, indeterminacy and generativity. \nOscar will perform a texture-focused live set\, built around a modular synthesizer setup.  \n \nDomenika Georgiou – 𝑀𝑒𝒸𝒽𝒶𝐻𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓉𝒞𝑜𝓇𝑒 \nDomenika Georgiou is a multidisciplinary artist based in The Hague. Currently pursuing an MA in ArtScience at KABK and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Her work spans performance\, immersive installations\, sound\, digital media\, and custom-built machinery—including wearable cyber prostheses and autonomous devices. With a deep interest in paradox\, transformation\, and post-dualistic states\, Domenika explores the thresholds of identity and perception through symbolic\, metaphorical and cybernetic frameworks. Her work has been shown and performed across Europe in venues such as Kupfer Gallery (London)\, Fabbrica del Vapore (Milan)\, Bim Milano. \n𝑀𝑒𝒸𝒽𝒶𝐻𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓉𝒞𝑜𝓇𝑒 is a powered armor machine with a built-in heart mechanism\, designed to protect the wearer from external threats while fulfilling the human desire to mechanize nature in the pursuit of new life through technology. The soundscape unfolds through glitchy Nintendo textures moving between ambient sweetness and distortion. It shifts from a comforting softness to chaos\, from delicacy to decay—beating a rhythm of memory transforming into new life\, and exploring the tension between fragility and artificial foreverness \n \n  \n  \n

No rules\, no judgement.
All different.
Stepping in the unknown.
Where the schedule stopped running. We Play. \nJulie Kurris is a theatrical performer and transdisciplinary Scientist who is always looking to dialogue with other performers and artists. She loves to play and create spaces that were unthinkable. \n \nDaphne Karstens combines sculpture and costume to create experimental wearable sculptures\, costumes\, performances and installations. Her work focuses on experimentation with materials\, shape and structure on and around the body. She often works with unconventional materials and combines the individual qualities of materials with shapes and structures. \n \nJasper Stadhouders’ playing showcases a completely natural musicality. One has the sense that he is so connected with his instrument he can play whatever he imagines. His ability to perform difficult compositions\, with an assured sense of rhythm and harmony\, combined with his extremely physical and dynamic approach to improvising\, has led him being one of the most sought after guitarists around. \nScreenshot\nOlga Tsyganova was born in St.Petersburg\, Russia and grew up in the U.S. Seeking out what brings joy and gives challenges\, she found teachers in storytelling and listening\, dance\, theater. Her studies in psychology and her passion of dance brought her to the desire to do physical theater. She studied at the Mime school in Amsterdam and works on combining poetry\, dreams\, reality and music in her work. \n\nNasim López-Palacios Navarro is an artist who works with music and computers. As a drummer\, improviser\, and composer\, and a beginner in programming\, he uses these tools to create art\, and as a source of inspiration. \n\nFor Ivo Bol all sounds are special: the hum of the fridge\, or the noise of the record just before the song starts. He performs his music using his body and mind to manipulate these sounds with light sensors\, touch\, gesture or brainwaves. \n \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Harvest Festival
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nFrom the 30st of May till the 1st of June GROND will host part of the Harvest Festival organized in collaboration with damdam – an interconnected web of collectives emerging from de Appel’s Curatorial Programme\, the Lumbung Practice Temporary Master Programme at Sandberg Instituut and Gudskul’s Collective Study Programme in Indonesia. \nBuilding on the 25 years of Lumbung kindred experiments leading to lumbung – documenta fifteen\, for the first time this year we will gather with collectives to practice sustainable economies\, to think about our collective infrastructures\, shared practices\, common resources and values. One of our values is caring about the process\, rather than focusing on the production of artworks or exhibitions as isolated outputs. We turn toward each other and the relations that bind us. \nOur curatorial approach is embedded in the politics of friendship\, interdependence\, trust\, collective joy as well as engagement withAmsterdam and our localities. Alongside mapping our resources and needs in our ecosystem\, we build a common ground and think about potential seeds to plant. Out of this process\, several self-organised working groups emerged around common urgencies: community\, land\, economy\, printing\, publishing\, pedagogy\, documenting and archiving. In the Harvest Festival 2025 we share our understanding of lumbung practice and ongoing processes through nongkrongs (gatherings)\, workshops\, screenings\, discussions\, dinners and parties. What kind of future can we envision if we reorient our work around sharing\, communal rhythms\, and solidarity? \nThe program at GROND: \nFriday 30 May\, 10.00 – 17.00 \nMubadele\nWorkshop and Talk \nThrough the idea of Mubadele we aim to create a system where knowledge\, skills\, and materials circulate beyond the constraints of money. By mapping our existing resources\, and by organising discussions on funding\, this gathering is part of a longer-term vision: to develop strategies for economic resilience that are rooted in solidarity\, not scarcity. With Elke Uitentuis\, Colin Roustan and Alina Lupu. \nExhibition Opening – Everywhere is War\nFriday 30 May\, 17.00 – 21.00 \nThrough the making of stop motion animations the collectives Er Sell Reality and SSMG (Sudanese Stop Motion Group) gave shape to the feelings of guilt that they are facing because of leaving their beloved land and relationships behind. Everywhere is War is a process-oriented presentation that shows how both collectives have been experimenting with the animation techniques and exploring the battlefields under their skin. \nDuring the opening there will be dinner from 5 to 7pm cooked by Mohamed Alnoor\, \nand from 9pm a radio performance by Marc Nukoop\, Ivo Bol and Wytze Minne de Swart. \nThe exhibition is also open on 31 May and 1 June from 12 to 9pm. \n  \nSaturday 31 May\, 18.00 – 21.00 \nDon’t Stop Talking About Exile: The Voice of Women TV Show + Congo Solidarity Dinner\nScreening/discussion + Dinner convened by We Sell Reality & Parole de Femmes \nParole de Femmes TV Show (The Voice of Women TV Show) is a collaborative short-film led by women from the Emmaüs community. The screening will be followed by a talk with the creators of the film\, followed by a solidarity dinner for Congo. Guest speakers Eric Bimule and Aime Kabena will inform us about the situation DRC. \n  \nThe exhibition is also open on  1 June from 12 to 9pm. \nThrough the making of stop motion animations the collectives We Sell Reality and SSMG (Sudanese Stop Motion Group) gave shape to the feelings of guilt that they are facing because of leaving their beloved land and relationships behind.
